Spotlight #2: The Aliens

Ta-da!

The spritework and animations for all the alien enemies is nearly done. I just have to make a walk and attack cycle for that big one at the end (notice that it's the only one not moving).

Each enemy will be able to deal damage to the player and to their two structures. They will also drop materials for crafting when killed. The rarity of the materials depends on the strength of the enemy. You can avoid damage to property and person by hiding in a shelter; for the aliens, if you're out of sight, you're out of mind. If you're on the ground, they'll attack you; if you're visibly inside or on the top of a building, they'll attack that building. It's a good idea to not let them catch you repairing your ship, otherwise they'll damage it and you'll have to work harder to repair it!

Now, I'll go over each enemy and what they'll do to make life harder for you as you try to survive!

#1: Slug
A bare-bones enemy with minimal health. It will always drop a weak material (Scrap or Rock, the latter being slightly more rare). This means that, while it will never give you anything good, it will always give you something, at the very least.
This alien attacks by jumping straight at you! It's hard to avoid, but hey, at least it hardly deals any damage.

#2: Bat
An annoying flying enemy. It will usually drop a Rock, and will rarely drop an Alloy, but it may drop neither.
Similar to the Slug, it's extremely weak. However, it's airborne, so you won't be able to keep aiming at the floor! It attacks by swarming towards you, bouncing off of you when it hits you. Later in the game, it may spawn in great numbers. Also, all flying enemies will attack you directly if you're on top of a building, and have a chance to target buildings instead of you when they spawn.

#3: Spider
A reasonably tough ground-based enemy. It will usually drop a Rock, and may very rarely drop a Meteorite, but it may drop neither.
This enemy attacks by violently bashing its face into you. It can be avoided simply by walking in the other direction, as it must stop walking to begin its attack. However, when dealing with a large wave of enemies, you might not have that kind of option. Remember to hide in your shelter if things get too bad!
This is the toughest enemy at the beginning of the game, but as you grow stronger, it will quickly become easy cannon fodder, like the Slugs and Bats.

#4: Ptero
Another flying enemy, this time quite formidable. It will usually drop an Alloy, but may drop nothing at all.
This one attacks by swooping down at you from above. Admittedly, I haven't implemented this attack yet. I'd have to practice to know if avoiding it is a reasonable option or not; you might just have to tank it. If that is how it is, I'll balance the damage accordingly, and it will be somewhat weak damage-wise. However, I plan to give it relatively high health. This enemy has a higher chance to attack buildings over the player than the Bat does.

#5: Troll
A very strong, but very slow, ground-based enemy. It will always drop a Meteorite, though it has a chance to drop an Artifact Core as well.
This enemy, like the Spider, must stop moving to attack. However, its attack is extremely painful! It uses its large arms to smash the ground with great force. Even though it takes a while to begin the attack, it emits a slight shockwave, so you need to run further than you think! Good thing you're quick on your feet.
This enemy is unique in that its body cannot be damaged. You must aim for its big, red eye. Don't misunderstand, though, this is only a weak point for this enemy, so you don't need to worry about headshots in other situations too.

#6: Wasp
The only enemy with a projectile. Unlike other flying enemies, it cannot spawn with a building as its target. It will drop an Alloy or a Microchip, with an equal chance of both; however, there is a chance it will drop nothing.
The Wasp will try to get in range of you, and once it does, it will charge up a glowing green projectile and fire it at you. This projectile deals a fair bit of damage to you, and also heals enemies. To prevent a powerful alien from being healed, you can shoot at the projectile. During a tough fight, it may be best to focus your fire on these guys!

#7: Longlegs
A Spider that has grown to its full strength. Essentially, the head honchos of Martiankind. It will always drop an Artifact Core, although it may drop a Meteorite or Microchip in addition to that.
When it gets close to you, it will try to stomp on you with whatever leg is closest to you. Don't fear, though, as it's not hard to dodge and weave between the legs! However, take note of its massive size. Each leg and its head will all be hit by your bullets. This is great if you are, in fact, trying to shoot at it; however, it may block you from attacking a massive horde of aliens. In order to get behind it and attack the horde, you might have to tank damage! Make sure you have enough health for that. Certain weapons and buildings will let you circumvent this problem if you're creative.
This enemy has the most health out of all the aliens. It will only show up very late in the game, so you'll have plenty of time to prepare.

If you were attentive, you might have noticed me talking about each of the materials a little bit! I'll go over their functions in the next spotlight, which will focus on crafting, and what you can make with it. Until next time!
