March Check-In
Hello again!
A few days ago, I realized just how long it's been since the last update - around 7 months. That stinks. If you've been waiting, I apologize. I'd like to promise that 0.7.0 will be released in April, but I really can't. I'm close to finishing up, but not close enough. There are still a couple critical gameplay features that are half-done or outright missing. I can make a significant amount of progress on any given day, but I have enough other things going on that require my time and attention. My semester wraps up in May, so I could theoretically make a lot of progress starting then. Don't hold your breath, though - even without school, there's always more to focus on than hobbies, believe it or not. (By the way, when May really does roll around, it will almost be the 1-year anniversary of mARS' development! I'll have to check my files for the exact date I started.)
I might as well be transparent here, for my own sake if not for yours, and list exactly what needs to be fixed before I can release 0.7.0:
- An interface for the Ammo station.
- Implementing the Ammo and Material stations' functions.
- Finishing the placeable traps.
- Making a way to actually complete the game.
- Finishing, or finding temporary alternatives for, the ship's destruction animation (it's surprisingly complex, but only because I implemented the ship poorly. Whoops).
- General balancing, playtesting, and debugging (especially for the Vendor menu... don't even get me started...).
On a happier note, in my January Check-In post, I mentioned that my friend Corporate Bystander has been working on music for this game. He's really busy too, but he's found time to make a working version of an in-game track. That means we've got music, baby! During gameplay, you'll hear his work. He's done a phenomenal job, and I'm really grateful for the help. Here's his SoundCloud; he makes really nice ambient synth stuff, which is exactly what a game about being stranded on another planet needs. (He hasn't posted any of the mARS soundtrack there yet, but I'll let you all know if/when he does!)

That's all from me for now. See you later, and thanks for reading!
