Spotlight #1: The Guns
Here are the weapons you can get in mARS!
Each one has a set of two upgrades. Many of these upgrades are simple, like damage or reload time, but they're still quite potent. Some do even more than that, changing the weapon in a fundamental way. It's up to you to strategize based on what you equip!
Guns, upgrades, and ammo are crafted using materials dropped by aliens. Ammo is unique to each weapon; for example, shotgun shells won't work for the sniper rifle. Don't worry, ammo is relatively cheap, at least for the weaker weapons. Also, the Laser Pistol has infinite ammo. You can create weapons and upgrades out-of-order, if you want, provided that you have enough material. The exception to this is the eighth weapon; it's unlocked once you have all the other weapons.
Also, weapons automatically reload, even when you aren't holding them! If your clip runs out in the middle of a tough fight, stay calm and switch to another weapon. You'll take out those big guys in no time! Keep in mind that weapon reloading takes longer if you're not holding the weapon.
Certain upgrades can change the function of a weapon greatly! A good example of this is the Energy Rifle. The "Reversed polarity" upgrade makes all shots fired ice-cold, slowing down enemies. It's plenty good on its own, but it has a somewhat low DPS compared to later weapons. Shoot fast enemies with the Rifle to freeze them and then switch to something else to deal the final blow! There's a gun for every situation.
Well, that does it for today. To whoever's reading this, if anyone at all, thanks for the interest in my little projects!
1. Laser Pistol
Standard-issue sidearm. Packs a bigger punch than you'd think.
UPGRADE 1: Supercharged (Faster firerate)
UPGRADE 2: Heat conversion (Higher damage)
2. Energy Rifle
Automatic. Fires weak rounds at a fast rate.
UPGRADE 1: Superdupercharged (Faster firerate)
UPGRADE 2: Reversed polarity (Bullets slow enemies 20%)
3. Arc Generator
Uses ammo extremely quickly to fire a stream of electricity. When an enemy is hit, and there is another enemy nearby, the stream will arc to that next enemy.
UPGRADE 1: Double Battery (Increased maximum ammo)
UPGRADE 2: Ancient Core (Electricity arc can target more enemies)
4. Shotgun
Fires a burst of small rounds.
UPGRADE 1: Easy reload (Decreased reload time)
UPGRADE 2: Accuracy engine (Reduced spread)
5. Rocket Launcher
A very heavy rocket launcher. Can't be aimed, but comes with a secondary fire: right-clicking and holding on enemies makes rockets lock on to them.
UPGRADE 1: Mini-thrusters (Faster mid-air turning for rockets)
UPGRADE 2: AI Seeking (Faster lock-on time)
6. Sniper Rifle
Slow to fire, but pierces enemies with blink-and-you'll-miss-it, high-caliber rounds.
UPGRADE 1: Denser rounds (Number of enemies that can be pierced with rounds increased)
UPGRADE 2: Wing corrosion (Increased damage against flying enemies)
7. Machine Gun
Can't be aimed. Sweeps up groundborne enemies like no other with an extremely fast firerate. Fire by holding the fire button to build up rotor speed; once that's high enough, rounds are fired.
UPGRADE 1: Longer Bullet Feed (Increased maximum ammo)
UPGRADE 2: Rotor control (Right-click to spin rotor without firing)
